Ukrainian citizens are the largest group of foreigners who bought apartments in Poland last year, according to data from the Ministry of Interior and Administration.
A report by the Ministry of Interior and Administration on the purchase of real estate in Poland by foreigners – both individuals and legal entities – indicates that in 2017, foreigners became owners of 6,385 properties in our country, including 4,822 apartments and 1,563 commercial premises. Although the dynamics of Polish real estate purchases by foreigners slowed last year (an increase of 3.7% compared to approximately 20% in 2015 and 2016), Ukrainians were more likely to buy Polish apartments and commercial premises.
According to data collected by the Ministry of Interior and Administration, last year Ukrainian citizens purchased 24% more real estate than Germans and British citizens combined. The most popular investments were in properties located in the province of Małopolska. The most popular apartments were located in the Masovian Voivodeship, while the least popular ones were located in the Podkarpackie, Podlaskie, and Świętokrzyskie Voivodeships.
Warsaw apartments were the most popular among foreigners; in 2017, foreigners purchased 1,213 apartments in the capital (with a total area of 89.2 square meters), representing 30% of the total residential space purchased in Poland by foreign citizens. Kraków and Wrocław followed. The average size of an apartment purchased by foreigners in 2017 was 63 square meters.
