A great run on the new car market

New car sales among Poles are growing. Companies, representing 73.1% of buyers, are buying the most cars. Electric vehicles are becoming increasingly popular.

In April 2018, a total of 44,700 cars were purchased at Polish car dealerships, over 13% more than a year ago. Since the beginning of the year, 184,601 new passenger cars have been registered in Poland, representing an increase of over 11% compared to the previous year. However, used cars remain the most popular, with over 300,000 registered since January 2018. The brands most frequently chosen by Poles are Škoda, Toyota, and Volkswagen.

A significant increase is particularly noticeable among electric and hybrid cars, which are becoming increasingly popular in Poland. Overall, the share of eco-vehicles in total passenger car sales between January and April was over 4%. In April 2018 alone, Poles purchased approximately 1,900 hybrids, a 35.1% increase, and 133 electric cars – an impressive 171.4% increase. Diesel sales, however, declined.

Exact Systems forecasts indicate that total sales of new passenger cars in Poland in 2018 will exceed 500,000. Meanwhile, in the European Union, over 1.3 million new passenger cars were purchased in April 2018, representing a 9.6% increase.
